“Okay, class dismissed,” said the teacher. I was so glad class was over and I could go home and do absolutely nothing. I walked on the side of the streets as usual, like I do every day. But something was strange, our neighbor’s, the Matthews, front door was open. However, their cars were parked so I guess they must have left it open. I stepped inside the house and no one was home, but boy was it a wreck! “Hello?” I screamed. “Anyone home?” I added. It was really peculiar. I saw a small metal thing on the floor and picked it up. “What the heck is this?” I thought to myself. I put it in my pocket and left. The next day, I checked the house again yet there are still no signs of the Matthews’.
Later that night, I told my brother, Nate, about the Matthews. “Probably they just went on a vacation…” Nate said. “On a vacation? Then why would they leave their house open?” I replied. “Oh yeah, you’re right!” Nate chuckled. “Oh yeah, and I found this too…” I said pulling the metal thing out of my pocket. Nate got it from my hand and examined it. “…looks like a magnetic metal thingy.” He said. *WEEYOO, WEEYOO, WEEYOO* A car alarm goes off, and then another car alarm goes beeping too. After, everything’s dead silent.
The next day, I went to school and saw Andrea, my crush. She’s pretty alright, her eyes were as brown as pinewood. I walked towards her and said hi. “Well that was super awkward.” I said to myself.
Later that day, when class ended, I noticed that Andrea didn’t have a ride home. “Hey, wanna walk with me?” I asked softly. “Is it alright with you?” she answered. “Yeah, of course!” I said. The walk home with her was so awkward I could die. I decided to talk about the Matthews’. “…well I hope they’re alright.” She muttered. “Yeah.” I said. “Well, thanks for walking me home! I really appreciate it!” she blurted out. “Anytime!” I replied. She was always so, so sweet.
At night, I went out to check the Matthews’ house again. On the way there, I stopped in shock. Seeing an orange figure, I went invisible in case whatever that was saw me. I had no idea what it was. It looked like it was sucking the energy from the house in front of the Matthews’ house. It looked like that made ‘it’ stronger. I ran back in the house and went to sleep. I didn’t want to tell Nate yet.
The next day, I turned on the TV downstairs to check the news for anything about what happened last night. “There had been a few disappearances lately,” said the reporter. “…villagers say that it was caused by unknown orange figures,” he added. I looked it up on the internet for more details. I learned that they absorb energy. I also learned that if they engage microwave energy, they tend to overheat, and they might just blow up. I needed some sort of microwave energy gun in order for those orange things to blow up. I decided that it was time to tell Nate so he could help me. “…so you’re saying that you saw an orange thing that was trying to suck up energy from the house across the Matthews’?” he explained. “Yeah, exactly. But they looked human, or more like they had the body structure of a human.” I replied. “So what do you plan on doing?” he said. “I need some sort of microwave energy shooting thing.” I explained. “You mean a microwave energy gun.” He said. “Yes.” I replied. “Well the 4th years are building one in the science lab, but it’s not yet charged.” He said. “You could sneak it out,” he added. “I’ll try.” I replied.
Later at school, I asked the professor if I could go the bathroom so that I could sneak the microwave gun out. “Sir, could I use the restroom?” I asked. “Sure,” said the professor. I quietly sneaked the gun out of the lab and placed it in my locker. Luckily, it wasn’t that big, but it was as heavy as a boulder. After that, I went back to class. A few hours later, class ended and I had to force it in my bag and go home.
At home, I showed the microwave gun to Nate. “Wow, this is really heavy!” Nate said. He charged it with 8 4C-Batteries. I was really jumpy to use it, I didn’t know whether it was going to work or not.
A few hours later, it was already 10 minutes past 11 and I decided to sneak out with the microwave gun. I saw the orange thing sucking up the energy from Andrea’s house. I immediately loaded the gun. “Here goes nothing,” I said, shooting it. It was going crazy until it exploded and left a small object. I went near it and it was the small metal thing that I found in the Matthews’ house. It must’ve been the same thing that took the Matthews’. I was so relieved it worked. I went running back to my house with the gun in my hands. Despite the fact that the gun worked, I was so troubled about Andrea that I couldn’t sleep. I told Nate about what just happened and he, too, was surprised.
The next morning, I went down and switched the TV on the news. The reporter was giving an account about more strange disappearances. “A family has been abducted but have strangely been found on the streets,” said the reporter. That family was the Matthews’. They were back! I was so relieved; but then, where’s Andrea?
I went to school and the only thing on my mind was Andrea. The day felt so long, but finally the last period ended. As I was walking home from school, I heard someone shout for help. “Help! Someone please,” said a voice. “Please! Someone, anyone!” the voice added. I followed the voice and it was an injured man. He claimed that he was one of the people who got abducted. I brought him back to our house for him to heal and get some rest. “Are you okay?” said my mom, startled at seeing the man. “Yeah, he’s fine. He just needs an ice pack and some bandages,” I replied. We helped him fix his injuries and gave him what he needed. I told mom about what’s been happening lately and she was worried. “I just want you to be safe…” said mom. “I know, mom, I know.” I replied softly.
Later that night, I sneaked out again with the gun. I didn’t see any signs of any orange figure trying to suck up energy from a house. As I walked further, I was surprised by what I saw: it was some sort of spacecraft. The worst thing was, Andrea was in it. She was begging for help. “Andrea!” I screamed. She was tapping on the glass, begging for help. The only thing I thought of doing was to shoot the spacecraft so that Andrea could get out. I lifted the gun and pointed it at the sky. “Okay, here goes nothing.” I said as I shot the spacecraft. It went crashing down and Andrea and her family walked out of it. I ran towards her. “You okay?” I said. “…kind of” she replied. I led them to their house and let them rest there. I went out of the house to finish the last of those orange things.
The next day, I was so tired and my feet hurt. I went down and turned the TV on and the reporter was talking about the return of the missing families. “…and there was a vigilante helping the victims who somehow killed the unknown figures.” He said. A smile appeared on my face. I went up to tell Nate, “Hey, Na-…” I stopped. He was gone, Nate wasn’t anywhere and even the gun was gone…
